About Nikon TTL

TTL, or "Thru-the-Lens" flash metering, allows the camera to evaluate the scene and communicate exposure information directly to a compatible flash. The camera automatically adjusts the power output of the external flash, eliminating the need for manual adjustments. TTL exposure is faster and typically more accurate than setting the flash output manually. It can make the difference between capturing a properly exposed image or missing the shot, especially when photographing fast-moving subjects or those moving towards or away from the camera. TTL is the easiest way to achieve perfectly exposed macro photography, allowing greater focus on framing and composition. TTL is also effective for wide-angle or close-focus wide-angle (CFWA) shots. Simply set the camera to expose the background correctly, and the DL1 will adjust the strobe intensity for proper foreground exposure. Ikelite was the first company to introduce TTL for underwater strobes with Nikon DSLR cameras and continues to set the industry standard for Nikon TTL flash accuracy.

Electrical Flash Triggering

Connecting an electrical sync cord is as simple as screwing in a light bulb. Electrical triggering provides greater accuracy, faster rapid firing, and fewer missed flashes compared to fibre optic triggering. Using electrical TTL also significantly extends strobe battery life.

The Ultimate Flexibility

Switching between TTL and manual flash exposure modes is effortless with the press of a button. A super-bright LED indicator light provides clear mode visibility. In TTL mode, flash exposure (EV) compensation is easily adjustable through the camera’s menus. The DL1 DS Link fully supports rear curtain sync flash modes and is independently waterproof sealed. A dual sync cord allows firing of two strobes in TTL from a single DL1 DS Link converter.
